They have been on a gingerbread kick lately. In fact, my entire living room is now filled with a gingerbread box house village. We now have a bakery, post office, and gingerbread house.&nbsp; They have been so busy painting, we&#8217;ve almost gone through our green and brown Kwik Stix!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the directions on how you can do this activity today with your kids too (and why it&#8217;s a good learning activity for kids!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Learning Objectives:<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trace and draw a gingerbread cookie &#8211; this is great for fine motor skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Write a sentence using the sight words my and cans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Use an exclamation point.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Materials Needed<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> Brown butcher paper or Packing Paper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Kwik Stix (our new favorite fast drying tempera paint) or Markers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Directions to Make the Giant Gingerbread Cookie Writing Activity <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Have one child lay down on the brown paper.&nbsp; Trace loosely around them, leaving a generous space around them to create a more &#8220;cookie&#8221; like drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/theeducatorsspinonit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_6953-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theeducatorsspinonit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_6953.jpg\" alt=\"Giant Gingerbread writing activity\" title=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>2. Color in the gingerbread cookie.&nbsp; Talk about how you ice real cookies, the colors used, and the parts of the body you are coloring in.&nbsp; WORDS MATTER!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Write a sentence above or below the giant gingerbread cookie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><u>For younger kids:<\/u> have them tell you what the gingerbread cookie can do and the adult writes the sentence, saying each word as they write it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><u>For children learning to write<\/u>: Write the words on a separate piece of paper and allow them to copy each word onto the giant gingerbread paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/theeducatorsspinonit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_6968-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"426\" width=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/theeducatorsspinonit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/IMG_6968.jpg\"><\/a><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OR let them write the words My and the beginning sound of gingerbread. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would look like this<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My g<br> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the adult writes gingerbread cookie, saying the words out loud as they write.
